15 Facts About Me

One of my personal resolutions is to let people in a little more. I want to learn how to share more about myself, and just be more open overall. For those of you who are just starting to read my blog, and those who are new to blogging yourselves, I wanted to share some info about myself. So here it goes!

Fifteen Facts About Yours Truly

I can be ridiculously shy, depending on the situation. If I’m around other shy people, I’m the more outgoing one that tries to bring them out of their shell. But if I’m around loud, eccentric people, I tend to shut down. It’s definitely something I’m working on.

I graduated in May of this year with my Bachelors Degree in Communications and Media Studies. I’m immensely proud of this achievement, but so happy that it’s over and done with.

I used to (and still do quite often) play Ice Hockey. My dad taught me out on the frozen lake when I was very young, and I still try to play whenever I can.

My pet peeve is when people are selfish. Who doesn’t hate that?! If you don’t ask me how I am, or how my day was, and continue to go on and on about yourself, our friendship won’t last.

I’m addicted to running. I get grumpy when I can’t run and/or go to the gym. I try to go 5 days a week, but sometimes it doesn’t work out.

I have been working at marinas since I was 16. I started as just a dockhand during the summers, and now I design and update their website, and sell boats and waverunners year round. I work really hard, and I’m proud of that.

When Kyle and I first moved in together, I was in school full time finishing my degree, and I worked 4 jobs. It was the most stressful time of my life, but I did what I had to do for us.

About 6 years ago, I was in a horrible relationship. It destroyed me in many ways, but then there was Kyle. I still look at him and wonder if he’s real sometimes.

I absolutely love animals. ALL animals (check out my adventure at the fair with farm animals!). I would do anything to save/help an animal in need. So I hope Kyle is ready for the 10 puppies I want to bring home daily…

At 15 years old, I visited New York City with a friend and her family for her birthday. It was a complete culture shock to me. I saw a homeless man sitting up against a building and just burst into tears. It broke my heart.

I never cry in public. If it gets to that point, something serious has happened.

I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with Kyle after dating for only 2 weeks.

When I was in high school, I missed the state qualifications for Outdoor Track in the 400 meter dash by .4 seconds.

I spend way too much money at Starbucks. I always get the Caramel Machiatto. If you haven’t tried it, you need to.

The first gift Kyle ever gave me was a stuffed animal dog. Clearly he knows me well given that we weren’t even dating at the time!

If you’re having trouble getting personal with your posts, try something like this. Make it feel factual, and before you know it you’ll be sharing things you didn’t think you would.

Do you relate to any of these? What are some facts about you that others wouldn’t expect?

  2. Hey girlie! It’s nice to get to know you better! I can relate – I spend so much money at Starbucks and Dunkin.. I love the Starbucks caramel machiatto! It’s my go-to drink when I’m at work! Also, I knew I wanted to marry my boyfriend too after only two weeks of dating him too! It’s so crazy how that happens to people! 🙂 I have a question – do you guys live on base together, and if so, do you have to be married to do that? My boyfriend is under the impression that we do (which is generally what I’ve always heard because married men get BAH), but I was just wondering if you guys were married when you first started living together, and if not how did it work out for you both with him being in the military and not being married but living together? Sorry it’s sort of a personal question!

    1. Hey, thanks for reading! Great question. Although it often feels like it, Kyle and I are not yet married. Being together for as long as we have been, we have in many ways taken on that role. We don’t live on his base, so we are considered “off base housing”, meaning we receive BAH if he’s deployed or in training for more than 30 days. The Army policy is that single members have to be E-6 and above to live off base and receive that allowance. If they’re below E-6 and considered single with no dependents, than they’re required to live in the barracks. It’s unfortunate that it requires that marital status in order to obtain those benefits, and it’s a huge reason why people get married hastily.. It’s hard sometimes to be with a military man, but not married. I feel a lot of pressure sometimes, and little support. There are all these support groups for military spouses, but if you’re not a spouse than it just makes you feel excluded. Everyone looks at me like I’m temporary, without knowing what him and I have gone through. Kyle always tells me not to worry, but my biggest concern is that when he’s deployed there won’t be that support unless we are married. They say that Army men are always in a hurry to do everything, but certainly not Kyle haha. I hope this helped!

  3. That is crazy! Yes this was immensely helpful thank you so much! I’m sorry you feel that way 😦 I have read other women’s stories similar to yours aboutt how they weren’t married to their bf and the military spouse community/the army or whatever branch it was just disregarded them almost entirely. That is wrong and I hope you find another woman or a small community of women who are in a similar situation as you when he goes on deployment so you have a support system! I may not be living off-base or even with my bf at all at the moment (and won’t any time soon unfortunately), but I’m always here if you need someone to talk to or anything! You’re not in this alone ! ❤

  4. Cute post! I’m also super shy around really outgoing people. Now that I’m a youth leader, I have to learn otherwise! And I also love animals (especially cats). I love your heart for the homeless. I have especially been touched by the homelessness in my community and want to reach out. God bless you and Kyle ♡
