10 Activities to Check Off Your List This Holiday Season

Each year around Christmastime I find all of these ideas (mostly on Pinterest) that I want to try. They range all the way from dates to crafts, and everything in between. But let’s face it, we rarely get to do all of those ideas, with the exception of the really crafty people and the bakers of the world.

I wanted to get creative this time around, and reach beyond just making gifts for my family and close friends. Next year could be very different, so I really want to make this season the best of all time. Here are some ideas!

+ Picture Christmas Cards

Kyle and I have been together for 5 years, and sadly we’ve never done this! But this year I’m putting my foot down. He’s pretty cooperative when it comes to these things, so I’m sure he won’t mind. With the way things are going in the world, I really want this holiday season to be one to remember, because next year he could be overseas.

+ Little Cookie Pouches

To clarify, I bought little burlap pouches that say “Made by Elves” on them and I really want to make them into little gifts. I’m hoping to make some sugar cookies and put them in the pouches for all of our family, friends, and coworkers. The challenge will be making good sugar cookies, because I’m the girl that mixes up baking powder and baking soda. So it should be interesting!

+ Go to a Light Show

Where we live, there are tons of light shows each year and they’re all amazing! Some of them are the light shows that go along with music, and others are the walk-throughs that look like they took 2 years to construct. We can either go with friends or just the two of us, either way I’m sure it’ll be fun!

+ Go on a Sleigh Ride

This is another common thing to find in our area, and I’ve been asking Kyle is we could go for the past 4 years. It just seems so fun and festive, especially the ones at night when you can see all of the lights. Kyle unfortunately is terrified of horses, so it will take some convincing. Wish me luck!

+ Pickup Hockey

Few people know, but I’ve played Ice Hockey my entire life. Luckily, things get pretty cold up here so frozen ponds and lakes are easy to find. It’s always been our tradition to play on New Year’s Day with all of the family, so it’s a lot of fun for everyone. I haven’t played in about a year, so it’ll take some getting used to.

+ Go to atleast 2 Christmas Parties

We always have get togethers with family and friends, but this year I want to go to an actual Christmas party in addition to that. Kyle has his Company party and Unit party on base, so I’ll be able to check these off the list. It’ll be the first time that I meet all of his coworkers and their girlfriends and wives at once.

+ Make My First Pie

As stated before, I’m not a good cook. Tips will be appreciated!

+ Black Friday Shopping/Cyber Monday

Are any of you participating in this? Everyone tells me not to bother but I really want to see what it’s all about. I know it’s going to be crazy busy, and I’m not going all out and waking up at 2:00am. But I am hoping to check some more people off my shopping list!

+ Shop for Items to Donate

Whether it’s from my own closet or buying new items, I want to contribute to the many organizations that assist families during this season. It can be a tough one for many, especially military families with loved ones who are deployed. There are some amazing organizations that make a huge difference in their lives.

+ Send Holiday Cards to Deployed Soldiers

It’s an important time of year to remember those who are giving up time with their families to protect us. Being in a military family myself, it’s hard to imagine that some deployed soldiers don’t get any holiday cards at all. They should know that we are all thinking of them. Find out how you can send holiday cards to our troops here!
