Each year, Kyle and I try to make a plan to spend Veteran’s Day together if he has it off. This year we have 3 days off together starting today, so we made some fun plans for the whole weekend! Kyle surprised me with tickets to an Ice Hockey game near base, and we’re going to spend the night at a hotel and have dinner at our favorite restaurant. I’ll be doing a recap on all of the details next week, but today I’m sharing some fun things that you should do this Veteran’s Day.
Attend a sporting event
Football season is in full swing as well as Hockey, and a lot of professional sporting events are offering discounts for Veterans this weekend. It’s a great event to attend with friends or family, or even just the two of you. And you can plan a whole day around things you can do in the area before and after the game!
Go to a Veteran’s Day Parade
Find a parade in your area and pack a little picnic. It’s a great way to show your support, and spend time with your own community. We have a huge parade about 20 minutes from our house, and it’s so nice to see everyone get together. And it’s free!
Dining out
Whether you want to have breakfast, lunch, or dinner, tons of restaurants are offering a Veteran’s Day discount. Take a look at the long list of restaurant discounts, and find a place you haven’t tried before. We make an effort to do this every year if we aren’t able to get away.
A weekend away
There are lots of travel discounts this weekend, as well as discounts on your hotel stay. If you don’t have anything planned, now is the perfect time to get away for a night or two. You can plan your day around the local area, and visit some museums at no charge as well.
Volunteer
Volunteering is a great way to lend an ear to those in your community, especially this time of year. There are many organizations that are looking for volunteers to raise money and spread awareness about their cause. Giving your time is one of the most selfless things you can do.
Run a 5k
Check out my list of military fun runs, and find one in your area! Even if you’re not much of a runner, there are plenty of activities to participate in this weekend.
What are your plans for Veteran’s Day? What’s going on in your area?
Great ideas! I will also be watching hockey! Chris is playing in his adult league hockey game tonight. I think we are going to go to Buffalo Wild Wings to celebrate Veterans day beforehand though. I was surprised with all the businesses honoring Veterans Day, I think it is wonderful!

That sounds fun! I play in an adult league as well and it’s a blast. We usually don’t take advantage of the discounts, but today we decided to atleast go out to lunch at Chick-fil-A haha. Have a great day!
