When I started going to the gym full time, I was completely hooked. I could go every day of the week without feeling like I needed a break. There was never any struggle; I would just get up and go. But over the years I started to realize that my body was changing, but my routine wasn’t. And sooner or later, it caught up to me… Continue reading “Basic Equipment To Start Your At-Home Gym”
I’m sure we’ve all been there. That moment where you open your refrigerator or pantry door for the 10th time to stare at the shelves full of food. You sift through the drawers and shuffle things out of the way, but you can’t find anything you want. There’s tons of options, but nothing seems appealing. I go through this process far more often then I want to admit. I’m always looking for the 1 snack that I don’t have, which leads to a trip to the grocery store where I’m surround by unhealthy options. My least favorite part of the holidays is coming soon: Resolution Season. I call it a season because unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to last. We’ve all struggled with making the big changes, and more importantly, keeping them.
But why do we wait until January to change? Why not do it now, during the busiest and most challenging time of year, so that we know we can truly take on anything? Here are some things you can change today! Continue reading “Leading A Healthier Lifestyle: What You Can Change Today”
The holiday season is my absolute favorite time of year. From the decorations, to the parties, it’s hard not to become completely immersed in all of it. But the holidays can actually be a very stressful time for many. In past years, it’s been a struggle to stay on track with my fitness goals. I always promised myself that I would swear off the cookies and candies, but a few family and company parties later, I would always throw those promises out the window. Let me just start by saying that working out is not easy. And it’s not the weights or the treadmill that make it difficult. It’s simply getting our butts out of bed and driving there. Once I walk through the door, everything is fine. But there are definitely some mornings when it takes all of my will power not to pull the covers over my head. When I was about 5 years old, my parents took me on my first big hike up Sugarloaf mountain in northern Maine. I barely remember the climb that first time, or the way that the steep pathways stretched out before us. I didn’t remember the way that the shade felt damp and cool, with just brief moments of sunshine sneaking through the web of leaves. But I’ll never forget the view from the top. As the colder weather gets closer, it’s hard to find the motivation to exercise, let alone get to the gym in the first place. But since it’s about to be the holidays, exercise is vital to staying sane and fit. If you’ve been thinking about joining a gym, or integrating some at-home exercises, now is the time to start. When I first joined a gym, I was about 16 and I was playing a lot of school sports at the time, so I really just went to run on the treadmill. I usually brought a water bottle and some headphones, and that was it. I didn’t really know what I needed. Continue reading “5 Fitness Must-Haves For Beginners”
Have you ever had one of those “Monday incidents” where it’s not even a Monday, but it certainly feels like one? So far this week, every day feels like a Monday. I’ve been struggling to get out of bed, and find the motivation to do what I have to do. A huge part of this is because I’ve started going to the gym in the morning again, and my body is a bit confused with the change of routine. Kyle can sleep through an alarm clock like it’s his job, (probably a habit formed when he had to sleep in a huge room with 60 other guys a.k.a. barracks) so I’m usually the one that has to wake us up.
I’m more of a morning person than most, but I do struggle sometimes to truly wake up. I move pretty slow at first, which can make the first 20 minutes of any morning workout feel like a complete waste. I don’t have much time to use before work, so as soon as I enter the gym I try to make the very most of it. One thing I really rely on in the morning is having the perfect playlist to keep me energized. Continue reading “The Ultimate Workout Playlist”
