Happy Thursday everyone! I don’t know if it’s the fact that we’re getting closer to winter or what, but the weeks have been flying by. We’ve officially entered the holiday season, so things are getting pretty busy for us between weddings, work functions, holiday parties, etc. But I must say, I love this time of year!Continue reading “Life Lately: Wedding Weekend and The Fair”
7 Tips To Help You Get Back To Your Workout Routine
Let me just start by saying that working out is not easy. And it’s not the weights or the treadmill that make it difficult. It’s simply getting our butts out of bed and driving there. Once I walk through the door, everything is fine. But there are definitely some mornings when it takes all of my will power not to pull the covers over my head.Continue reading “7 Tips To Help You Get Back To Your Workout Routine”
5 Must-See Hikes On The East Coast
When I was about 5 years old, my parents took me on my first big hike up Sugarloaf mountain in northern Maine. I barely remember the climb that first time, or the way that the steep pathways stretched out before us. I didn’t remember the way that the shade felt damp and cool, with just brief moments of sunshine sneaking through the web of leaves. But I’ll never forget the view from the top. Basic Military Training: How To Prepare For Family Day and Graduation
When Kyle left for Basic Training, I was only a Sophomore in college. At the time, it felt like the hardest thing we would ever overcome. I felt so overwhelmed and worried, and it was incredibly difficult to accept that I no longer had control over our lives. I said goodbye to him in a parking lot, outside of the hotel he would be staying at with the others. The next morning, he boarded a plane to Fort Benning, and there was no turning back. 5 Fitness Must-Haves For Beginners
As the colder weather gets closer, it’s hard to find the motivation to exercise, let alone get to the gym in the first place. But since it’s about to be the holidays, exercise is vital to staying sane and fit. If you’ve been thinking about joining a gym, or integrating some at-home exercises, now is the time to start. When I first joined a gym, I was about 16 and I was playing a lot of school sports at the time, so I really just went to run on the treadmill. I usually brought a water bottle and some headphones, and that was it. I didn’t really know what I needed.Continue reading “5 Fitness Must-Haves For Beginners”
How To Deal: 10 Things I’ve Learned Since Becoming A MilSo
It was a hot August day, and we had just arrived on base for our very first Family Day. I was so excited to see all of the other wives, girlfriends, sisters and mothers that were gathered, with children running all over the place. I thought, “This is going to be great! I finally get to meet people outside of his work.” Kyle had been welcomed into his new unit in February 2014, and had gotten to know the other soldiers really well in the last 6-7 months. But I had only seen them in passing, and I was eager to get to know everyone.Continue reading “How To Deal: 10 Things I’ve Learned Since Becoming A MilSo”
6 Things I Need To Stop Spending Money On
Over the past year or so, Kyle and I have really buckled down and started to save for our future. It started with the cars we wanted, and now it’s moved into more “adult” dreams, like a house. It’s amazing to look back and see how far we’ve both come in our careers, and the strides we’ve taken to build a more stable life. But one thing that constantly threatens our ability to budget and continue this growth are all the little things that we waste our money on. Five Things You Won’t See Me Post On Social Media
Being part of an online community is a wonderful experience. It enables you to meet new people, learn about different companies and services, and become more familiar with the world around you. In my own online community, I get to interact with military families, spouses, and service members from all over the world. It has been so much more fulfilling and fun than I ever imagined it could be. Continue reading “Five Things You Won’t See Me Post On Social Media”
All The Things We Forget About Deployment
The ‘D’ word can be a pretty dark subject among many military families, and I can’t say that ours is an exception. Deployment carries so many other things with it: separation, anxiety, loneliness, “danger”, etc. We worry about everything, from staying safe at home alone, to the many thing that could happen to our loved one. Whether it’s 6 months or a year, it’s hard to look past the days, weeks, and months as they build up before our eyes. It’s hard to accept that our lives together are on hold, while our lives as individuals continue on. Continue reading “All The Things We Forget About Deployment”
